Thanks for stopping by my page!

I graduated from Ivy Tech in 2014 with a degree in visual communications and have been a full time photographer since 2015. I’m located in southern Indiana right next to Louisville, KY.

Traveling to shoot weddings is definitely a goal! I love to travel to new places and I would love to shoot more destination weddings.

There are three questions I always get asked:
How did I get started with photography?. What is your favorite thing to shoot? What is your photography style?

First one : How did you become a photographer?

By accident. So as a teenager I worked for my uncle in his graphic design shop. I had no experience, had never designed anything in my life, but I enjoyed what I was doing. I should also add that I had no real college plan. I was going. but I still didn’t know what I wanted to grow up to be. Since I enjoyed the work I was doing at his shop I decided to pursue something similar in college.

One of the classes I had to take required me to buy a DSLR camera. I had just bought a pink Sony camera for like $90 bucks and thought I was set!

I was not.

I needed one of those “big” cameras. I was also 19 and teenage-poor so my dad helped me out. Long story short I hated the class I needed the camera for. It was commercial photography and I hated what we shot, my work wasn’t good and I basically didn’t understand any of the technical stuff the professor was teaching. Class is now over and I had this very expensive camera I could care less about. But I felt pretty guilty about basically wasting my dads money and decided to use it a bit more. I had a friend who loved to model and she became my first subject. After realizing that photographing people was an option and that maybe I actually didn’t suck I started to shoot more and more and I loved it.

Next : what is your favorite thing to shoot?

Honestly, probably pets. Obviously I like to shoot my own pets but for a while I volunteered at the shelter and photographed the new arrivals for their website. That was something I loved. Being able to showcase an animals personality gives them a higher chance of being adopted and I loved being able to hopefully make a difference.

As I mentioned earlier my cats are basically my kids. Like every other pet mom, my phone is full of pictures of my pets but every year or so I do try to take some quality pictures of them and print them. In 2016 one of my cats passed away and I was so glad didn’t only have phone pictures left of her.

My second favorite thing to photograph is probably a tie between wedding details and travel photography.

Last : what is your photography style?

This is really two different questions.

What is your shooting style vs. what is your editing style.

I’ll start with my shooting style. As you may have guessed from my ramblings about my cats I’m more of an introvert and as a kid I was very shy. I would much rather have read a book and ignored most people and I was uncomfortable in big social groups which led to a lot of people watching. which sounds creepier than it was… Anyway people watching (in a not weird way) turned out to be a useful skill. I love to watch for small moments throughout the day, expressions that will bring back the memories every time you look at your photos.

I would call my editing style true-to-life-vibrant-contrasty, if that can be a thing. I love lots of color and contrast and tones that aren’t too warm or too cool. My edits reflect the day as it happened. Did you get married on a bright sunny day with lots of white and pastels? Then your photos will be on the airy side. Do you have a dark, moody (or romantic is what I like to call it) venue? Then your pictures will have a darker look. It’s important to me that while the photos have my signature style they remain still remain something that’s classic.

favorite things . . .

What are some of my favorite things?

  • I like to read. A lot. I go through probably 2-4 books a week.

  • Essential oils. I’ve become one of those oil people I swore I would never be. But they actually work!

  • Mexican food, especially salsa. And super basic sushi, like only rice and spicy crab basic.

  • I like trying new creative outlets like DIY projects like maybe someday learning to use all that knitting stuff I bought.

  • Pretending I can afford anthropologie (my rule is only if its on sale). Mostly I creep the website, add to my cart and never checkout.

  • Anything to do with organization or making lists.

  • Decorating or styling anything.

  • Dr. Pepper

  • Taking travel photos.

  • Trying to be one of those millennial house plant people. So far I have more gnats alive than plants…

  • Water aerobics. I flail in the pool several times a week with all the elderly people. They’re my gym speed.
