Jessica and Chris’s Yew Dell Botanical Gardens wedding in Crestwood, Kentucky was filled with meaningful traditions, intentional details, and a love story that started years before their wedding day.
These two were high school sweethearts. They met in band and built a relationship that lasted through the awkward years, the growing years, and everything in between. Watching them on their wedding day, it was clear their connection had been built slowly and intentionally over time.
One of my favorite parts of their story happened long before the wedding. Jessica once shared that the first time her parents realized she didn’t want a traditional arranged marriage was when she was walking out the door for a date with Chris. That moment speaks volumes. She chose him. And she kept choosing him.
I actually went to elementary school with Jessica’s older sister, so photographing this wedding felt personal in a way I don’t often experience. Jessica has always been one of the sweetest, most thoughtful people, and she carried that same warmth into her wedding day.
In fact, she remembered a random conversation we once had about how I absolutely need milk when I eat cake. At the reception, she made sure I had milk waiting for me. It was such a small detail, but it said everything about who she is. She pays attention. She cares. And she makes people feel seen.
Before their wedding, I photographed their engagement session at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens. If you’re looking for engagement photo locations in Kentucky, Yew Dell is hard to beat. The gardens, historic architecture, and variety of backdrops make it ideal for timeless photos.
Their engagement session gave me a glimpse into how naturally they interact. There is no forcing moments with these two. No overthinking. Just comfort and ease. That same energy carried into their wedding day.
One of the most unique parts of this Yew Dell Botanical Gardens wedding was getting ready in the on-site castle. Jessica was especially excited about this part of the day, and it created such a romantic setting to begin everything.
She wore a gown by Essense of Australia that paired beautifully with the historic architecture and garden surroundings.
One of my absolute favorite parts of the day was the bridal portraits we captured inside the castle. The light filtering through the windows, the stone walls, and the quiet stillness before the ceremony created the most timeless images of Jessica. She looked radiant. Those bridal portraits at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens felt elegant, intimate, and completely aligned with her garden-inspired vision.
The overall inspiration was a garden wedding filled with personal touches, and they delivered.
Jessica and her mom created 1,000 paper cranes that were displayed behind the cake. The ring box used in the ceremony was handmade by Chris’s grandfather. Chris also wore a sixpence in his shoe, a gift from his mother. Every element had intention behind it.
Their ceremony included a handfasting, adding a meaningful and symbolic layer to the day. Surrounded by friends and family, they officially began the next chapter of a relationship that started years ago in a high school band room.
Yew Dell Botanical Gardens offers so much variety for wedding portraits. The Wall Garden, Holly Allée, Sunken Garden, and the castle grounds each provide a completely different feel while staying cohesive within the garden setting.
If you are planning a Yew Dell Botanical Gardens wedding, these locations photograph beautifully in every season. The combination of natural greenery and historic architecture makes it one of the most versatile wedding venues in Kentucky.
From florals by J. Elizabeth Designs to catering by Masterson’s and cake by Louisvillicious, everything came together seamlessly inside the gardens. Their first dance to “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith felt fitting for a couple who has already shared so much life together.
This Yew Dell Botanical Gardens wedding was not just beautiful. It was intentional. It reflected their families, their history, and the strength of a love that started young and continued to grow.
It was truly an honor to document it.
If you’re planning your own Yew Dell Botanical Gardens wedding or looking for a Kentucky wedding photographer who captures genuine connection and meaningful moments, I would love to talk.
