Emily and Josh’s spring wedding at Locust Grove in Louisville, Kentucky was the kind of day that feels relaxed, joyful, and completely personal from start to finish.

From the moment Emily told me Locust Grove was the second venue they toured and she “knew right away it was the one,” I understood the vision. The gardens. The historic home. The quiet charm of the property. In the spring especially, a Locust Grove wedding feels soft and timeless without trying too hard.

Getting Ready in Louisville

Emily got ready at a home nearby before heading to Locust Grove for the ceremony. She wanted natural, easy portraits, and spring light always delivers. There’s something about that late afternoon glow in Kentucky that feels especially fresh in April and May.

Josh got ready onsite at Locust Grove, which made the timeline smooth and stress free. One of the biggest advantages of a Locust Grove wedding is having ceremony and reception all in one place. It allows the day to flow naturally without extra travel.

A First Look at Locust Grove

Emily and Josh chose to have a first look at Locust Grove before the ceremony  . Spring greenery surrounded them, and the historic property created the perfect backdrop. First looks are always one of my favorite parts of the day. They give couples a moment to pause, breathe, and connect before guests arrive.

It also meant we were able to take advantage of the gardens and grounds for portraits while the light was still bright and flattering.

Ceremony in the Gardens

Their ceremony began at 5:30 pm  with guests arriving at 5. The setting at Locust Grove is beautiful in every season, but in the spring it really shines. The gardens are full, the trees are bright green, and everything feels alive.

Emily described her style as rustic chic, not country  . That theme came to life in the details. Her dad built the wooden boxes used as centerpieces, which became the inspiration for the entire design. It was one of those meaningful touches that you cannot buy from a rental company. It made the reception feel personal and heartfelt.

Reception at Locust Grove

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed dinner and celebration right there on the property. One of the reasons couples love hosting a Locust Grove wedding is how seamless the transition from ceremony to reception feels. Guests can explore the grounds, enjoy cocktails outdoors, and then gather for dinner without ever leaving the venue.

Emily wanted more natural posing and a documentary feel  , which fit perfectly with the relaxed atmosphere of the day. There was no pressure to over stage anything. Just genuine interaction, conversation, and celebration.
