Bradshaw-Duncan House Wedding Venue Guide

October 12, 2026

Bradshaw-Duncan House is one of those venues where I walked away thinking about how well the property works for an actual wedding day.

Located in Crestwood, Kentucky, about 20 minutes from downtown Louisville, the venue sits on 36 acres of Kentucky countryside. You have the historic house, open fields, mature trees, a shaded ceremony area, and a tented reception space all on the same property.

I really enjoyed photographing here. The house is beautiful, but what stood out to me was how much usable space there is. Both sides of the wedding party can get ready on-site, there are plenty of places for photos, and the ceremony and reception areas are right beside each other.

It has a very Kentucky feel without being a barn venue, and I think that’s a big part of its appeal.

A Photographer’s Perspective on Bradshaw-Duncan House

I’m Lauren, a Louisville. KY wedding photographer, and I’ve been photographing weddings since 2011. After more than 300 weddings, I’ve learned that the little logistical things about a venue can make a surprisingly big difference in how the day feels.

Bradshaw-Duncan House does a lot of those things well.

You don’t have to spend the morning moving between different locations. There are separate spaces for both sides of the wedding party to get ready, your ceremony and reception happen on the property, and we have enough variety for portraits that there’s really no reason to leave.

Here’s what stood out to me after photographing a wedding there.

Getting Ready Inside Bradshaw-Duncan House

I really liked the getting-ready setup here.

Instead of one nice suite and another room that feels like an afterthought, there are separate suites on opposite ends of the upstairs. Each has its own bathroom and staircase, which makes it much easier for both sides to get ready in the house without accidentally running into each other before the ceremony.

And they’re actual rooms. They’re nicely decorated, there’s enough space for a larger wedding party to gather, and you don’t feel like everyone has been squeezed into a little converted dressing room.

The window light inside is okay. Depending on the weather and where we’re photographing, I may still bring in some flash, but that’s not unusual for a historic house.

Downstairs, there’s even more room to spread out, including the Great Room, Bourbon Room, full kitchen, and two porches.

A Quick 2026 Update:
The historic house was damaged by a fire in March 2026 and is currently undergoing restoration. The ceremony site, reception area, and catering cottage were not affected, and weddings have continued on the property.

Bradshaw-Duncan House has temporary getting-ready spaces available while the historic home is being restored. If you’re planning a wedding during the restoration period, I’d check directly with the venue for the latest information about access to the house.

The Outdoor Ceremony Space

Couple exchanges vows beneath a floral arbor during their shaded outdoor wedding ceremony.

The ceremony area is simple, but pretty. You’re surrounded by grass and mature trees, with that very Kentucky black fencing running behind the ceremony space. There’s also quite a bit of shade, which I appreciate both for photographs and for guests, especially during warmer months.

I do think this is a ceremony space where a little decorating goes a long way.

You already have a nice background, so you don’t need to completely transform it. But because you’re primarily working with grass, trees, and fencing, I think an arch or some florals help define the ceremony space and give your eye somewhere to land.

It’s a good starting point that still leaves you plenty of room to make the ceremony feel like your wedding.

A Tented Reception Right Beside the Ceremony

Newlyweds embrace during their first dance beneath string lights at their wedding reception.

After the ceremony, guests don’t have far to go. The tented reception area is right beside the ceremony space on a concrete pad. You can still see the house, fields, and surrounding property from the tent, so even though you’re under cover, you’re still connected to the rest of the venue.

The tent itself is fairly straightforward. I think this is one of those reception spaces where your choices with flowers, lighting, tables, and other décor are what really give it personality.

And you don’t have to arrange the tent separately. Bradshaw-Duncan House’s current wedding package includes its high-peak reception tents along with tables, chairs, bars, and a dance floor.

Having the reception immediately beside the ceremony also makes the transition into cocktail hour and the rest of the evening easy for guests. There isn’t a lot of moving everyone around once the wedding begins.

My Favorite Places for Wedding Photos at Bradshaw-Duncan House

This is another area where the property gives us a lot to work with.

The front porch is probably one of my favorite spots. We used it for a first look when I photographed here, and it gave the couple some privacy without requiring us to disappear to another part of the property.

There are plenty of other places for a private first look, too. We can use the side of the house, move toward the ceremony grounds before guests arrive, or simply have everyone stay inside for a few minutes while we use the porch.

For couple and wedding party portraits, we have open green space, mature trees, the house itself, and a gravel road toward the back of the property. I like having those options because we can move around based on the light instead of being tied to one designated photo spot.

The house adds even more variety. The porch is beautiful for portraits, and inside there’s a staircase that gives us another option if you want some photographs that show off the historic character of the home.

You can get a pretty diverse wedding gallery here without ever leaving the property.

What Time of Year Is Best for a Bradshaw-Duncan House Wedding?

I’ve photographed Bradshaw-Duncan House during the warmer months, and the property is beautiful when everything is green. Between the open fields, mature trees, and shaded ceremony area, it works really well for a spring or summer wedding.

But I would love to photograph this venue in the fall.

There are so many mature trees throughout the property that I think fall color would completely change the look of it. The historic house, black fencing, gravel road, and open fields already have that classic Kentucky feel, and adding fall foliage to all of that would be beautiful.

So while I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Bradshaw-Duncan House for a spring or summer wedding, I think this venue could be a bit of a hidden gem in the fall.

What Happens if It Rains?

This is the one area where I’d make sure you have a plan you’re comfortable with.

Your reception is already covered by the tent, so rain doesn’t create the same problem there.

The outdoor ceremony is a little different.

I wouldn’t count on simply moving a full wedding into the historic house. Depending on your guest count, there may technically be enough room in parts of the house, but I don’t think that would give you the same experience or look as the outdoor ceremony area.

The tent gives you a covered option, but aesthetically, it’s going to be different from getting married outside among the trees and black fencing.

I’d ask specifically about the rain plan when you tour the venue. Find out where they would move your ceremony based on your guest count and how that setup would work with the reception.

It’s much better to know that before rain appears in the forecast.

What Does a Bradshaw-Duncan House Wedding Cost?

Bradshaw-Duncan House currently lists its wedding package at $6,950.

That includes all-day access to the property from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m., along with the historic house, Pavilion and tented reception spaces, tables, 225 padded chairs, bars, dance floor, on-site parking and security, and a dedicated vendor cottage. A one-hour rehearsal is also included and scheduled based on venue availability.

I like that quite a bit is already included because it gives you a better idea of what you’re actually getting for the rental price. You’re not looking at a venue fee and then immediately discovering that you also have to source every table, chair, tent, and dance floor separately.

Of course, pricing and inclusions can change, so I’d confirm the current package directly with the venue before booking.

Why I Like the Layout of Bradshaw-Duncan House

More than anything, I think this venue is easy to work with.

There are actual getting-ready spaces for both sides of the wedding party. The ceremony location has shade. The reception is right beside it. There are enough different places for portraits that we don’t have to leave the property.

That may not sound as exciting as choosing flowers or finding your dress, but it matters once the wedding day arrives.

You aren’t spending part of your photography coverage driving somewhere else for portraits. Your guests aren’t traveling between the ceremony and reception. And if the two of you want a few quiet minutes together, the property is large enough that we can usually find somewhere away from everyone else.

It also has a nice balance between historic and outdoorsy. The house gives you architecture and character, while the fields, mature trees, gravel road, and black fencing give you that Kentucky countryside.

You’re not locked into one particular look.

Why I Continue to Recommend Bradshaw-Duncan House for Weddings

Bradshaw-Duncan House gives you a little bit of everything without making the wedding day complicated.

You have a beautiful historic house, a shaded outdoor ceremony space, a covered reception, and plenty of room around the property for photos. I especially appreciate that both sides of the wedding party can get ready on-site and that we don’t have to leave the venue to find completely different backgrounds for portraits.

And while I’ve already seen how pretty the property is when everything is green, I think a fall wedding here would be especially beautiful. All of those mature trees paired with the historic house and Kentucky scenery could make this venue really stand out that time of year.

For couples who like historic homes and Kentucky scenery but don’t necessarily want a ballroom or barn wedding, Bradshaw-Duncan House is absolutely worth considering.
