Rachel and Micah’s Chapel in the Woods wedding in Louisville, Kentucky was the kind of day that felt steady, meaningful, and rooted in history. Not just wedding day history. Life history.
I had the chance to photograph both their engagement session and their wedding, which is always something I love. It gives me time to understand how a couple interacts long before the aisle moment.
From Familiar Faces to Forever
Rachel and Micah grew up attending the same church, Highview Baptist. For years they were simply familiar faces in the same space. Same community. Same services. Same building.
But they had never actually spoken.
It wasn’t until late 2014, through their college ministry fellowship class, that a mutual friend became the connection that changed everything. That Sunday conversation turned into dating shortly after. As Rachel says, the rest is history.
When you photograph a couple with that kind of shared background, it shows. There’s a comfort that can’t be forced.
A Thoughtful Proposal
Micah’s proposal was coordinated with the help of his best friend David. Rachel thought she was helping plan a surprise birthday party for Micah, even though his birthday had already passed weeks earlier.
That was her first clue.
When Micah walked back into the room holding a cake from Plehn’s, Rachel’s favorite bakery, she realized something bigger was happening. The cake read, “Rachel, will you marry me?”
Of course, she said yes.
A Chapel in the Woods Wedding Ceremony
Chapel in the Woods is such a peaceful wedding location in Louisville. Tucked away and surrounded by trees, it feels private and intentional. It’s the kind of venue that keeps the focus where it should be.
Rachel and Micah’s ceremony reflected exactly that. Simple. Reverent. Centered on faith and commitment.
There’s something about a Chapel in the Woods wedding that naturally slows everything down. The setting encourages presence. It allows couples and guests to truly settle into the moment.
Gheens Foundation Lodge Reception
After their ceremony at Chapel in the Woods, the celebration continued at Gheens Foundation Lodge. The transition from intimate ceremony to joyful reception felt seamless.
One of my favorite parts of documenting their day was watching how easily they interacted with their people. Years of shared community meant their wedding wasn’t just two families coming together. It was an entire circle of life intersecting in one place.
Why Chapel in the Woods Is a Beautiful Louisville Wedding Venue
If you’re planning a Chapel in the Woods wedding in Louisville, it’s a venue that offers both natural beauty and a sense of calm. Surrounded by trees and tucked away from the noise of the city, it creates a meaningful setting for couples who want their ceremony to feel intentional and faith centered.
Rachel and Micah’s wedding day was a reflection of their story. Steady. Connected. Rooted in shared history.
And it was such an honor to document it from engagement through wedding day.
