A Villwock Farms Wedding in Edwardsport, Indiana

As Elli and Luke’s photographer for their Villwock Farms wedding in Edwardsport, Indiana, I spent the day photographing everything from getting ready at their home to an outdoor ceremony and reception at the farm. Elli described their wedding style as “classy country,” with shades of pink, tan details, and a mix of traditional and handmade elements throughout the day.

Getting Ready at Home

The morning started at Elli and Luke’s house, where Elli got ready with her bridesmaids. We took a few pajama photos before everyone got dressed, and when Elli showed me some Polaroids she’d taken for Luke, I asked if she’d like to do a quick mini boudoir session before putting on her dress.

Afterward, her mom helped her get dressed before we headed to Villwock Farms. Elli’s gown had lace with sheer panels along the sides, while her bridesmaids wore different shades of pink with a couple of floral dresses mixed in. Floral bridesmaid dresses are one of my favorite things to see at weddings, and I loved how they looked mixed with the solid colors.

First Look and Wedding Photos at Villwock Farms

Elli and Luke originally weren’t planning on a first look, but a few days before the wedding, the forecast was showing extreme heat. We had already created their timeline together, so we got back on Zoom and rearranged it to move their first look and most of their portraits before the ceremony. It meant less time outside during the hottest part of the afternoon and gave everyone a chance to cool off before the ceremony.

Their first look took place by the pond at Villwock Farms, and it was easily one of my favorite parts of the day. While we waited for Elli, Luke told me how excited he was to marry her and that he couldn’t have done better. When they finally saw each other, they were both genuinely excited, and Luke had a gift waiting for Elli before we moved into their portraits.

We finished their wedding party photos before the ceremony as well, then everyone had some time to cool off before guests began arriving.

Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at Villwock Farms

Elli and Luke chose Villwock Farms in part because it’s only about ten minutes from their house, but Elli also liked that the venue donates a portion of its proceeds to charity. Their ceremony was held outside on the farm, with the guys in tan jackets and jeans alongside the bridesmaids in pink.

Because we’d already finished most of the portraits before the ceremony, we were able to move into the reception without spending a large part of that time on wedding party photos.

Classy Country Villwock Farms Wedding Reception

Elli carried the pink and tan colors into the reception, including centerpieces she made herself with her Cricut. Tan cheesecloth ran down the tables with small flowers in bud vases, and dinner was served by Agave Taco Truck.

Then a thunderstorm rolled through and knocked out the power.

We had to hold off on the toasts while we waited for the power to come back, but the storm also dropped the temperature by about ten or fifteen degrees after an extremely hot afternoon. Once everything was back up and running, we continued with the toasts, cake cutting, and dancing.

Elli and Luke had their first dance followed by an anniversary dance and dollar dance, then finished out some of the traditional reception events with a bouquet and garter toss. The garter toss got a little wild and made for some pretty entertaining photos.

Later in the evening, Elli and Luke stepped away from the reception for a few sunset photos out in the fields with the hay bales. The storm that had caused a little chaos earlier ended up giving us a beautiful sky at sunset, and after such a hot day, the cooler weather was a welcome change. We spent a little time wandering through the fields before they headed back to the tent, where the party was still going and everyone was ready for the rest of the night.
