welcome to my journal
There are some venues that become familiar over the years, and then there are venues that feel like a second home. Huber’s Orchard & Winery falls into that second category for me.
I’ve been photographing weddings at Huber’s for more than 10 years and have photographed at least 30 weddings on the property. I’ve worked in Plantation Hall, photographed receptions in the Heritage Room, explored the vineyard for portraits, and had the opportunity to photograph inside the distillery’s still house. At this point, I know the property well enough to know exactly where the best light is at sunset and where to sneak away when couples want a few quiet moments together.
I’m also honored to be included on Huber’s preferred vendor list, which has allowed me to work alongside their incredible team for years and help couples make the most of everything the property has to offer.
If you’re considering a Huber’s winery wedding, here’s why it continues to be one of my favorite Southern Indiana wedding venues.

For many couples, Huber’s is more than just a wedding venue.
If you grew up in Southern Indiana or Louisville, chances are you’ve visited Huber’s at some point in your life. Maybe you picked apples there as a kid. Maybe your family visited for seasonal events, school field trips, or a weekend afternoon at the winery.
There’s a familiarity to the property that makes people feel connected to it before they ever start wedding planning.
Couples often describe Huber’s as classic, welcoming, and timeless. It has the charm of a winery, the beauty of a working farm, and enough variety to feel unique no matter how many times you’ve visited.
For many people, choosing Huber’s feels like returning to a place filled with good memories and creating new ones with the people they love most.

One of the things that makes a Huber’s winery wedding so convenient is that couples can keep almost the entire day in one location.
Huber’s offers a bridal house where couples can get ready before the ceremony. Having a dedicated space on-site means less driving, fewer moving parts, and a more relaxed start to the day.
From a photography perspective, it also makes the timeline easier. There is no need to build in travel time between getting ready and the ceremony, which allows for more flexibility throughout the day. Whether that’s extra time with family, a first look, or simply not feeling rushed, those extra minutes can make a big difference.
Because everything is close together, the transition from getting ready to portraits, the ceremony, and the reception feels seamless. Couples can spend less time coordinating logistics and more time enjoying their wedding day.

One of the most popular ceremony locations at Huber’s is the outdoor patio space overlooking the property.
I photograph a lot of weddings here because it offers beautiful views while still keeping guests close to the reception space. Once the ceremony is over, guests can easily move into cocktail hour and the reception without a long walk or transportation between locations.
The patio also photographs beautifully throughout the day. The open views and surrounding greenery create a natural backdrop that works well with a variety of wedding styles, from classic and traditional celebrations to garden-inspired weddings.

Plantation Hall is the reception space I photograph most often at Huber’s, and one of the reasons couples love it is the abundance of natural light.
The room features floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, allowing guests to enjoy views of the patio, winery, and surrounding property throughout the evening. Even if you’re inside, you still feel connected to everything happening outdoors.
One of my favorite parts of photographing weddings in Plantation Hall happens at sunset. As the sun drops lower in the sky, the room begins to glow with warm light streaming through the windows. It’s especially beautiful when the timing lines up with the couple’s first dance. The combination of the sunset light, the views outside, and the emotion of the moment creates some of my favorite reception photographs of the entire day.
For couples who want a reception space that feels bright, open, and connected to the surrounding property, Plantation Hall is hard to beat.

For larger celebrations, the Heritage Room offers additional space while maintaining the same welcoming atmosphere that couples love about Huber’s.
The room can accommodate larger guest counts and provides flexibility for couples planning a bigger reception while still keeping everything conveniently located on the property.

The vineyard is one of my favorite locations for couples portraits.
The rows of vines create beautiful depth in photos and look especially stunning as the sun starts to set. It has a classic winery feel that many couples are drawn to when they first book Huber’s.
Because the vineyard changes throughout the season, it offers a slightly different look every time I photograph there.

The orchard gives couples another completely different look without ever leaving the property.
In the spring, the trees bring fresh greenery and blossoms. In the fall, the orchard becomes one of the most recognizable parts of Huber’s and ties into the nostalgic experience so many couples have growing up visiting the farm.

One of the more unique portrait locations at Huber’s is the distillery and still house.
The historic equipment, textures, and architecture create a distinctly different look from the vineyard and orchard. For couples who want additional variety in their gallery, this area offers something you simply can’t find at many wedding venues.

One of the reasons I never get tired of photographing at Huber’s is the variety of portrait locations available throughout the property.
The vineyard is always a favorite. The rows of vines create beautiful leading lines and look especially stunning during golden hour.
The gravel road beside the vineyard is another location I return to often. It has a simple, timeless feel and photographs beautifully as the sun starts to set.

The orchard itself offers a completely different look depending on the season. Spring blossoms, summer greenery, and fall color each create their own atmosphere.
Because the property is so large, it’s easy to create a diverse gallery without ever leaving the venue.
One of the more unique portrait opportunities at Huber’s Orchard & Winery is access to the distillery and still house. While not every couple chooses to incorporate this area into their wedding day, it offers a completely different look from the vineyard, orchard, and event spaces.
The historic equipment, industrial textures, and warm tones create portraits that feel distinctly Kentucky while still fitting seamlessly into a wedding gallery. It adds variety without requiring couples to leave the property and can be a great option for anyone looking for something a little different from traditional outdoor portraits.

After photographing weddings at Huber’s for more than 10 years, one thing I’ve learned is that the property truly shines in the hour before sunset.
The vineyard takes on a warm glow, the orchard softens, and the rolling landscape feels even more picturesque. Whenever possible, I encourage couples to step away from their reception for 15 to 20 minutes during golden hour. Those few minutes often produce some of the most memorable images of the entire day.
One of my favorite locations is the dirt road beside the vineyard. It has a timeless feel and works beautifully whether you’re planning a spring wedding surrounded by fresh greenery or a fall wedding with rich seasonal color.
Spring and fall are my favorite seasons to photograph at Huber’s, but every season offers something different. The flowering trees in the spring and the changing colors in the fall create especially beautiful backdrops for portraits.

Huber’s is one of those rare venues that photographs well throughout most of the year.
Spring brings flowering trees, fresh greenery, and some of my favorite portrait opportunities.
Fall is equally beautiful with changing leaves, vineyard color, and comfortable temperatures that make outdoor ceremonies especially enjoyable.
No matter when you get married, the property offers beautiful scenery and plenty of opportunities for portraits.

A beautiful venue matters, but a great team matters just as much.
One of the reasons I enjoy photographing at Huber’s so much is because the staff genuinely knows what they’re doing. Weddings run smoothly, timelines stay on track, and couples are well taken care of throughout the day.
When a venue team has experience, everyone benefits. Couples feel less stressed, guests have a better experience, and vendors can focus on doing their jobs well.
Huber’s consistently delivers that experience.

After photographing weddings there for more than a decade, I still get excited when a Huber’s inquiry lands in my inbox.
The venue is beautiful. The staff is wonderful. The food is consistently great. Most importantly, it creates an experience that feels easy for couples and their guests.
It’s one of those places where people come together, celebrate, and make memories. That’s exactly what a wedding venue should do.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph many weddings at Huber’s, but one connection makes the venue especially meaningful.
Allie, the owner’s daughter and longtime wedding coordinator, trusted me to photograph her own wedding. Having that kind of trust from someone who knows the venue inside and out means a lot to me.
It’s one more reason Huber’s will always be a place I’m grateful to work.
“Amazing Photographer Personally & Professionally”
I happened to meet Lauren through my field of work, as a wedding coordinator at Huber’s Orchard & Winery in Starlight, IN. After working alongside her professionally and seeing her finished product of brides I had personally worked with also, I knew she had a knack for catching all the best shots. We hired Lauren to do our wedding and reception photography and could not have been happier with the outcome! I am so glad that I can continue my relationship with Lauren through our shared interests. Thank you Lauren!!!

Every wedding at Huber’s looks a little different, which is one of the reasons I enjoy photographing there so often. If you’re looking for inspiration, here are a few real weddings that showcase different spaces and experiences throughout the property.

Lauren is AMAZING!!! She was one of my favorite vendors to work with during the whole wedding process. For starters, she is very responsive. When I sent her emails and texts, she always responded in a timely manner, never left me hanging. Planning a wedding is stressful and when you have questions, you want answers. Lauren was always there to help. She is also very organized and detail-oriented. She takes the time to learn about what your vision is for your wedding and how she can best capture it. She had me fill out questionnaires, which I found super helpful. All the little details are important and she makes sure to know them all so she can capture them. The questionnaires helped me stay organized and gave me ideas on what I wanted for my wedding. Lauren and her assistant were very professional and polite. And the photos turned out beautiful. I’m picking out which ones I want for our photobooks and it’s so difficult choosing, because there are so many great ones. Our families and friends also thought the photos turned out amazing. The package we chose was for 8 hours and we received 800 color photos and 800 black & white photos. I cannot recommend Lauren enough! Look no further for another photographer, she is THE BEST!!

We couldn’t have asked for a better engagement and wedding photographer than Lauren. From the very beginning, she made us feel completely comfortable in front of the camera, and the result was photos that looked natural and truly like us. Nothing felt forced or overly posed — just genuine moments beautifully captured.
Lauren guided us in a way that felt effortless and fun. She struck the perfect balance between giving direction and letting us be ourselves, which really shows in the final images.
We will treasure our engagement and wedding photos forever. We’re so grateful to Lauren for capturing this season of our lives so perfectly. Highly, highly recommend!
-Maureen

Stop your looking – Lauren is the photographer you want to go capturing your special moments! All along the way – from our first conversation, to discussing a small engagement session, and to my (now) husband’s and my big day, Lauren not only proved to have the photography skills, but also to be someone who is patient, flexible and listens to what you want. (Ask me about her trying to help wrangle our two dogs and our cat in our engagement session to partake in the photos.) She also goes out of her way for her clients – like the time she tried to help me find a makeup artist for the engagement session when my makeup artist bailed last minute. And the photos? Stunning. I am so excited to print every last one to post around our home and share with loved ones.
