There are some venues that feel like you’ve stepped into another era, and Gardencourt is one of them.
Located on the campus of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Gardencourt combines historic architecture, beautiful gardens, and a unique indoor-outdoor experience that is difficult to find elsewhere in Louisville. Whether you’re planning a garden ceremony, a formal reception, or a classic wedding celebration, Gardencourt offers a setting that feels timeless and elegant without feeling stuffy.
I’m Lauren, the photographer behind Photography & Design by Lauren. Over the years, I’ve photographed many weddings at Gardencourt and it’s become one of my favorite historic wedding venues in Louisville. I’m also honored to be included on Gardencourt’s preferred vendor list, which has given me the opportunity to work alongside their team and help couples make the most of everything the property has to offer.

Why Couples Love Gardencourt Weddings
One of the biggest draws of Gardencourt is its versatility. Couples can exchange vows in the gardens, celebrate inside the mansion, or even hold their ceremony at nearby Louisville Seminary Chapel before walking directly to the reception. Few Louisville venues offer that level of flexibility.
The property is also conveniently located near downtown Louisville hotels, making it easy for out-of-town guests while still feeling tucked away from the city.

The Historic Mansion
Inside, Gardencourt feels elegant and timeless. The mansion’s historic details, fireplaces, architectural elements, and connected reception rooms create an atmosphere that feels welcoming rather than overwhelming.
One of my favorite things about the venue is that it doesn’t require a lot of décor to feel beautiful. The character is already there.
The Glass Solarium
One of the most unique spaces at Gardencourt is the glass solarium. It’s one of those features that couples don’t always expect when they first tour the venue, but quickly becomes a favorite. The combination of natural light, historic architecture, and garden views creates a space that feels completely different from the rest of the mansion while still fitting seamlessly into the property’s overall character.
The solarium works beautifully for cocktail hour, portraits, and quiet moments throughout the wedding day. Because of the large windows, it also photographs beautifully in almost any weather and offers couples another option if they want indoor photos without losing the feeling of being connected to the gardens.
From a photography perspective, I love the way the light moves through the space throughout the day. It feels bright, airy, and timeless while still maintaining the historic charm that makes Gardencourt so special.
Reception Spaces
Receptions at Gardencourt are spread throughout several connected rooms within the mansion. This layout creates a different experience than a traditional ballroom. Instead of one large room, guests naturally move throughout the space, creating a celebration that feels more intimate and conversational.
The separate dance and cake room helps keep the evening flowing while allowing guests to explore different parts of the property throughout the reception.
For couples who love historic venues, it’s easy to see why Gardencourt continues to be such a popular choice.
Portrait Locations Around Gardencourt
One of the reasons I enjoy photographing weddings at Gardencourt so much is the variety of portrait locations available without ever leaving the property.
The Columns
The columns create timeless portraits that feel elegant and classic.
The Fountain
The fountain is one of the most popular portrait locations on the property and works beautifully for couples, wedding parties, and family photos.
The Gardens
The gardens provide beautiful color and texture throughout the year.
The Lawn
The open lawn gives couples a completely different look and works especially well for sunset portraits.
The Best Time for Photos at Gardencourt
One thing couples don’t always realize is that the property sits a little lower than some surrounding areas. Because of that, timing matters when planning sunset portraits.
I typically recommend stepping away for portraits just before sunset rather than waiting until the very last minute. When timed correctly, the property provides beautiful light and some of my favorite portraits of the day.
Things to Know Before Booking
Summer Weddings Can Be Hot
The gardens are beautiful, but Louisville summers can be intense. The brick and surrounding surfaces tend to hold heat, so couples planning an outdoor ceremony during the summer months should think about guest comfort.
The Getting Ready Suites Are Functional
Gardencourt offers getting ready spaces for both sides of the wedding party. They are convenient and help keep everything on-site, but they’re more functional than luxurious.
