welcome to my journal
A Yew Dell Botanical Gardens wedding is one of the best options for couples dreaming of a garden wedding in the Louisville area. Located in Crestwood, Kentucky, Yew Dell offers beautifully maintained gardens, unique event spaces, and a setting that feels elevated without feeling overly formal.

Hi, I’m Lauren! As a Louisville wedding photographer, I’ve photographed weddings all over Kentucky and Southern Indiana, and Yew Dell stands out because there truly isn’t another venue quite like it nearby. One of my favorite parts of my job is helping couples find a venue that fits not only their vision but also the experience they want for their wedding day.
If you’re considering a Yew Dell Botanical Gardens wedding, I hope this guide gives you a better idea of what to expect. I’ll share not only the venue details but also the little things I’ve learned that can help make your day go smoothly.
Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden venue that combines beautifully landscaped grounds with several unique event spaces. The property offers a mix of formal gardens, historic structures, open lawns, and shaded pathways that give couples a wide variety of options for both their wedding day and their photographs.
One of the things that makes Yew Dell special is that it feels tucked away from the city while still being conveniently located near Louisville. The gardens create a peaceful atmosphere that allows guests to slow down and enjoy the experience.
For couples who love nature but still want an elegant wedding venue, Yew Dell strikes a nice balance between the two.

Yew Dell offers a couple of options for getting ready before your ceremony, including the Garden Cottage and the iconic Yew Dell Castle.
Personally, I love when couples choose the castle for getting ready. The stone walls, leaded glass windows, and historic character create such a unique backdrop for those quieter moments before the ceremony. It feels elegant without being overdone and photographs beautifully in every direction.

The Garden Cottage is another great option, giving you a comfortable space to relax with your wedding party before the day begins. Having dedicated getting ready spaces on-site also makes the day run more smoothly since you don’t have to travel between locations before the ceremony.
Yew Dell offers several ceremony and reception locations throughout the property.
The Event Lawn is one of the most popular ceremony locations. Surrounded by gardens and greenery, it provides an open-air setting with plenty of room for guests.

The Walled Garden offers a more intimate atmosphere with beautiful garden surroundings and a private feel. Couples looking for a romantic outdoor ceremony often gravitate toward this space.
For receptions, many couples utilize the Mary F. Rounsavall Pavilion and Stone Terrace. These spaces allow guests to enjoy the beauty of the gardens while celebrating outdoors. Market lights overhead help create a warm atmosphere as the evening progresses.

The venue also features Gheens Barn and additional garden spaces that can be incorporated into your wedding day depending on your plans and guest count.

Yew Dell includes several helpful amenities with its wedding rentals.
Couples receive a one-year membership to Yew Dell Botanical Gardens along with access to two event staff members during their wedding day.
The venue also includes a ceremony rehearsal during open hours, access to the Garden Cottage beginning at 9:00 a.m., 48-inch and 60-inch round tables, 6-foot and 8-foot rectangular tables, cocktail tables, a bar front, and both ceremony and reception seating.
One feature I particularly love is the market lighting over both the Stone Terrace and the Mary F. Rounsavall Pavilion. It adds a welcoming atmosphere once the sun starts to set.

Yew Dell also maintains a list of approved caterers and rental companies, which can help simplify the planning process and ensure your vendor team is familiar with the property.
As a photographer, I love that there are truly no bad photo locations at Yew Dell.
The venue is beautiful throughout the year, but spring and fall are especially stunning when the gardens are in full bloom or showing off fall color. One thing couples don’t always realize is how much shade exists throughout the property. That makes portrait time much easier and more comfortable, especially during brighter parts of the day.
The castle is one of my favorite locations for getting bridal portraits. It offers beautiful light, character, and a unique backdrop that helps create images that feel different from many other wedding venues in the area.

I also love the winding paths throughout the gardens. Every turn offers another opportunity for portraits, and it feels like there is always something new to discover.

If you’re the kind of couple who loves the outdoors, a Yew Dell Botanical Gardens wedding may be exactly what you’re looking for.
This venue is a great fit for couples who want a true garden wedding experience rather than simply adding flowers to a traditional venue. It appeals to couples who appreciate nature, beautiful landscaping, and an environment that feels both relaxed and refined.
Because there aren’t many garden-focused wedding venues in the Louisville area, couples often choose Yew Dell when they want something that feels distinctive and memorable.

If you’re planning a summer wedding at Yew Dell, guest comfort is something worth considering.
Much of the venue experience takes place outdoors, and there are limited large climate-controlled spaces available. Summer weddings can still be beautiful here, but it’s worth thinking about shade, hydration stations, fans, and other ways to keep guests comfortable throughout the day.
Current exclusive grounds rentals at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens are $10,000 plus sales tax and a refundable damage deposit.
Wedding rentals are available during the venue’s wedding season, and availability can be limited due to demand. Because pricing and availability can change, I always recommend reaching out directly to Yew Dell for the most current information.
